Chapter One: The beer would warm in the glass before the cable news loop ran through its next cycle. No breaking stories to cut into the repeating drone. Just the too perky, too perfect, smiling then serious, practiced sincerity, happy pleasing torso of the anchor, cart wheeling from the rescued kitten to the dead soldiers through elder care and the DOW Jones.
